No. 11 Maryland women’s lacrosse comeback bid falls short in loss at No. 24 Rutgers

The Terps (7-5 B1G) made a valiant comeback effort against the Scarlet Knights (5-seven B1G) only ultimately couldn't complete the improvement in a sixteen-fourteen loss.

Maryland struggled to incorporate the Rutgers offense throughout the day and gave up multiple runs in which the Scarlet Knights scored six or more unanswered goals. The Terps offense once more struggled with consistency, looking dominant at times just also disappearing for long stretches.

Early on, Maryland looked unstoppable offensively. After Marin Hartshorn opened upwards the scoring for Rutgers, the Terps scored three straight goals on the free position, including two in a row past Brindi Griffin.

Taralyn Naslonski answered for Rutgers just then Griffin scored again on a fast intermission, giving Maryland a 4-2 lead, securing her hat-play a joke on just nine minutes into the game. Unfortunately for the Terps, that was the last goal they would score in the first one-half.

Maryland finished the final 20:45 of the kickoff half without a single goal while Rutgers proceeded not just to tie the game, besides building a sizable lead. Six unlike Cerise Knights scored over the final 20 minutes of the half, giving them an 8-four lead entering the locker room.

However, Maryland's law-breaking responded, one time again starting the half with a scoring run. Grace Griffin and Hannah Leubecker both scored in the first two minutes, cutting the deficit to two earlier a Cassidy Spilis goal put Rutgers ahead nine-vi.

Iii minutes later, Maryland had tied the game at 9-9. Grace Griffin and Leubecker each scored again and and then Brindi Griffin scored her fourth goal of the day to necktie things upwardly. Once again, Maryland's criminal offence went fallow later an impressive scoring display.

The Carmine Knights went on to score the next seven goals of the game over a 10-minute stretch that put them upwardly 16-9 with 8 minutes to play, putting the game out of reach.

Maryland did make things interesting,however, in the final 5 minutes of the game. Hannah Leubecker scored 3 goals and Shaylan Ahearn added two of her own, cutting the deficit to simply two with less than two minutes remaining.

Brindi Griffin had two free position attempts with but under a infinitesimal left but failed to convert, keeping it a two-goal game. Rutgers was immune to regain possession and run out the clock to secure a 16-14 victory.

"It was great to encounter how we executed in the final v-7 minutes of the game," Reese said. "However, I need our grouping to bring that energy and intensity for a total 60 minutes. We tin't accept lapses like that and expect to come up away with wins in our conference."

Maryland's biggest issue today was declining to stop scoring runs by Rutgers before they did too much impairment. It's tough to trounce whatsoever team when they are able to hang six goals in a row multiple times throughout the game.
