Since the get-go John Wick, I had hoped for more than manner to delve into the world created in the film. Whether information technology was in the form of a TV series, comic book, graphic novel, more films, etc. With this comic book series, we become to swoop deeper into John Wicks world. Perhaps nosotros will see the task that made him famous? Who knows. I practice know that this is an splendid debut issue that sets the stage for a bloody path. Read Full Review

Hearing most John Wick turn into a comic book, I thought would exist a bad idea. How can you lot bring all that movie theatre activeness and yet capture the tormented soul onto the pages of a comic book? Residue assured, the pages concord upward to John Wick persona. I promise that both the writing and the drawing continue to follow the character and his bullet-filled escapades. Read Total Review

The result is a skillful one that makes me want to come up back for the second. I love the ii films and to encounter more than of Wick in a different way where unlike aspects can be explored is appreciated. Pak has the voice of it down, there just needs to be some work when information technology comes to more striking visuals. Read Full Review

This first entry moves lightning-fast, simply like the films it emulates. I was surprised to observe the terminal folio so soon, but it does manage to pack a lot in. Pak handles the character with finesse, keeping him from existence interchangeable with other one-man-ground forces types. The art squad has some highs and lows, only overall it was an enjoyable read. I especially enjoyed the goad that sets Wick off; mistreatment of animals is non advised in this mans vicinity! All that being said, its not fair to guess a comic on what it isnt or what it could be. John Wick #1 IS a slick and action-packed opening chapter to the titular super-assassin'due south illustrious career. Fans of the motion picture should definitely dig it, especially if Pak and Valletta get an opportunity in later on bug to explore the seedy and provocative Underworld established in the movies. But if the premise didn't grab you on the screen, information technology's unlikely to take hold of you on the page. 3.5 / 5 Read Full Review

I'm not sure how successful the comic will exist, but writer Greg Pak and artist Giovanni exercise a fairly practiced job in bringing the graphic symbol to life on the printed page. And the activeness isn't half-bad either. Worth a look. Read Total Review

John Wick #one isn't probable to blow you abroad, just it is an interesting starting time to this origin story. Showing the famous assassin prior to his life equally a hired killer, the narrative quickly stands out from the movies. It nonetheless manages to retain the same tone and violent nature, and despite the plot being a little mundane there is enough to leave readers itching for more. Lets just hope things selection upwardly presently! Read Full Review

Putting the questions about whether we necessarily needed a John Wick comic in the start place to one side, what we take here at the terminate of the day is a adequately enjoyable action thriller with a solid, if slightly unremarkable storyline. If youre a fan of the movies and so youll definitely get a boot out the actress content hither, but if you arent already familiar with Keanus critically-acclaimed large screen bad-ass, then this new series is probably worth skipping. Though hampered by some thin flashbacks, John Wick #i is still a fun time, though not most equally fun as it should be. Greg Pak, Giovanni Valletta, David Curiel and Inlight Studios really go the tone, visual language, and action beats that brand this franchise simply their execution could use a flake of work in future issues. Here is hoping that the next time we see John Wick on shelves, he'south back the way he was during the offset movie. Read Full Review

'John Wick' #ane is an origin story that has the movie'southward DNA only not quite the polish yet. That's understandable as we learn more about John's background. Pak understands what the fans desire and he delivers some os-breaking, face-smashing, gunplay that has defined the character. He also sets in motion some exciting new dangers that make the adjacent effect a must-buy. Read Full Review

Information technology's disappointing to see such a promising prequel comic stumble so difficult in its debut. In some means, John Wick #1 succeeds in capturing the tone and voice of the films. However, as a outcome, at that place's little sense of this version of Mr. Wick being fundamentally different or less experienced than his movie self. Even a "by the books" John Wick risk would exist fine so long every bit information technology replicated the fashionable appeal of the films, but the loose, poorly divers artwork in this effect can't manage that feat. Greg Pak (Mech Cadet Yu, Kingsway W) has enough of good titles and I would be willing to requite this series a second chance based on his name alone. I could run into why some of the bad grades. If you lot've never seen the flick you might not be able to enjoy the charm of the book. I for ane love the movie and institute this very interesting. The fine art is smashing, awesome action and a pretty authentic character to the pic. It will need a few more problems to set the bases of where it's going, merely if you similar the movie you should like this book.

This feels almost like a pilot episode for a Boob tube prove in some means. It may move a piffling too chop-chop but the art does a good chore of crating a version of John Wick that definitely resembles Keanu Reeves. I hope that they slow the pace down a petty scrap in the coming issues. I'm not certain if I will continue with this book or not.
